IDXChannel - Indonesia has strengthened its economic diplomacy amidst a fragile global economic situation caused by economic crises, the pandemic, rampant protectionism, a me-first policy approach, and increasingly complex geopolitical constellations.
"Amidst those difficult situations, economic diplomacy has produced many concrete achievements," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi when delivering her annual press statement at Independence Building, Bandung, West Java on Monday (8/1/2024).
"The objectives of economic diplomacy are clear namely: to encourage economic growth, to promote people’s welfare, and to strengthen national self-sufficiency," she stated.
On trade, Indonesia’s global trade figure in 2014 was more than USD 355 billion. In 2023, the trade volume was recorded to be more than USD 439 billion, an increase of almost 24% and experiencing a surplus of more than USD33 billion.
On investment, in 2014, the realization of foreign investment amounted to USD 28.5 billion. In the period of January to September 2023, the value of incoming investment reached USD37.8 billion, an increase of more than 32%.
