To achieve sustainable operations, Pertamina has adopted the ZRF principle to eliminate routine gas flaring—a critical step in reaching its emission reduction targets.

As part of the national strategy, Pertamina’s commitment aligns with the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), which support the global climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement (COP21), Hadi added.

Meanwhile, Global Director for the World Bank Demetrios Papathanasiou lauded the step and called Pertamina an important partner in Southeast Asia.

As stated in Pertamina's release, Papathanasiou highlighted the company’s significant role in the region, noting that the company produces over one million barrels of oil per day and plays a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economy.

"Pertamina's step to develop oil and gas without gas flaring is an extraordinary ambition," he added.

He also expressed enthusiasm for working with Pertamina on the Global Flaring and Flaring Reduction Initiative.
