IDXChannel - The friendshoring policy carried out by the United States (US) government is one of the efforts to encourage the recovery of global supply chains whose problems are still hampering the global economy.
Public policy expert from the Washington-based Committee for Economic Development John Gardner explained that Indonesia must be able to align national industrial ecosystem standards with the needs of foreign investors, especially US investors, to take opportunities from friendshoring.
The United States (US) government's policy that encourages friendshoring will be one of the challenges as well as an opportunity for the Indonesian government in pushing for a national downstream program.
Gardner explained that the Indonesian government must be able to take advantage of friendshoring or the efforts of the American government to move its industry from China to partner countries. Gardner believes that the Indonesian government must be able to ensure the interests of foreign investors, particularly US investors, in an effort to relocate their industries.
However, the most real challenge is ensuring that the industrial ecosystem in the country is in line with the efficiency expected by foreign investors. This is because investors will not be hasty in moving their investments to other countries, regardless of the superiority of the investment climate in that country.
