IDXChannel - Deputy Ministerof Finance Suahasil Nazara believes that Indonesia's economy would not grow, if the percentage of imports continued to be higher than the use of domestic products.
Nazara also cautioned that unrestricted imports might impede industrial and economic growth in indonesia. He noted that increasing the use of domestic-made products among residents is one of the most effective mediums to rev up indonesia's economic growth.
The use of domestic-made products is also part of the efforts to spur commodity downstreaming which has emerged as a new source of economic growth for the country.
“The source of indonesia's future economic growth is the use of domestic production. Our country can't grow if we keep using imports, or our country can't grow if the imports are too big, we won't succeed,” Nazara said.
“Our country can't progress or get out of the middle-income trap, create new growth, create higher per capita income, it can't be without manufacturing, it can't, it definitely has to be manufacturing,” he added.
